Harry Potter Finale Shatters Box Office Records

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 hauled in $92.1M in U.S. and Canadian box office receipts Friday (including that record-setting $43.5M from midnight showings), along with $44.2M Saturday and an estimated $33.6M Sunday. These sums were helped by 3D ticket prices, often $3-5 more per ticket. Friday’s showing shattered the record for best single-day box office, best Friday box office.

Warner Bros President of International Distribution, Veronika Kwan-Rubinek said “Harry Potter is truly a cultural phenomenon the world over. Whether in German, French, Japanese, Russian, or any language, international audiences have embraced the Harry Potter films over the years, with the powerful finale punctuating just how special the property is. We congratulate everyone associated with the films on this monumental achievement.”

So how does Harry Potter’s take compare to Transformers’ Dark of the Moon, last week’s mega-summer flick?
