Last night’s big winner at Spike TV’s Scream Awards 2009 was science fiction favorite, “Star Trek,” which earned six awards in the following categories: Best Science Fiction Movie, The Ultimate Fight Scene, Best Science Fiction Actor (Chris Pine), Best Cameo (Winona Ryder), Best Director (JJ Abrams), and Fight Scene of the Year. Even so, vampire film fans have much to celebrate, as Spike TV acknowledged the genre’s overwhelming mass appeal by handing shows “True Blood” and “Twilight” four Spike Awards each in last night’s taping of the annual awards show.
HBO’s “True Blood” took Spike Awards for Best Horror Actor (Stephen Moyer), Best Villain (Alexander Skarsgard), Best TV Show, and Best Horror Actress (Anna Paquin). “Twilight” also walked away with Spike Awards for Best Fantasy Movie, Best Fantasy Actor (Robert Pattinson), Best Fantasy Actress (Kristen Stewart), and Breakout Performance-Make (Taylor Lautner).
“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” also hauled off four awards: Best Sequel, Best Science Fiction Actress (Megan Fox), Breakout Performance-Female (Isabel Lucas), Best F/X, and Scream Song of the Year (“New Divide” by Linkin Park).
