Hell’s Kitchen: Karma Bites Kevin, Dave Wins

dave-levey-hells-kitchen What an ending to the 6th season of “Hell’s Kitchen”! Ariel bit the dust, in part because she made the fatal mistake of allowing her chief rival, Kevin, to proceed to the finale. Had she done to him what he did to her in tonight’s episode, she might have won the competition. In case you’re wondering what transpired, Kevin sabotaged Ariel’s run as lead cook by pretending he was confused and didn’t understand her instructions. The incident made it look like Ariel could not run a kitchen. Of course, in a real situation, one would simply fire Kevin for insubordination.

With Ariel out of the way, Kevin and Dave were left to duke it out. As Kevin revealed throughout the season, he has an ego the size of Jupiter and so it was no surprised that he was pleased to have eliminated his chief rival, Ariel, leaving him to compete with someone he thought inferior, Dave.

Given instructions to prepare their own menu for the night’s challenge, Dave prepared a rack of venison dish while Kevin made a lobster plate. Either of the two must gain 3 out of 5 votes to win. Dave’s venison dish was a hit with the judges. But more entertaining was seeing Kevin’s facial expression as he lost. You could see his ego deflate like a balloon losing air.

In the final challenge, the two had to prepare dinner service for the top chefs of Vancouver. Dave chose a simple rustic venison dish while Kevin chose a more complex dish. Amanda overcooks Kevin’s scallops appetizer, then undercooks the risotto. What karma! After Kevin bottomed out in the 11th hour, Dave won the final challenge and also won the job of Head Chef at Araxi. Good for Dave, who soldiered through with a broken hand! In the end, Kevin made a comeback of sorts. He proved to be a good sport about losing.
