Warehouse 13 Finale Review: Ep. 12 MacPherson Hits Gold for Syfy

warehouse-13-macpherson The first season of “Warehouse 13” came to a close last week in an action packed cliff-hanger that fully mines the show’s creative potential and leaves fans with lots to ponder.

The team faces off against Artie’s (Saul Rubinek) arch nemesis and former Warehouse partner, MacPherson (Roger Rees), who has amassed a crap load of dangerous artifacts to keep the crew at bay. Turns out, MacPherson became a bad boy when the Regents forced him to choose between saving his lover’s life or the lives of many others. MacPherson, the romantic, chose to save his lover, placing him on the outs with the law and the Regents.

What sets this episode apart from the rest in the season is that “MacPherson” digs deep into character motivations and uses well established weaknesses to bring about inevitable conclusions in the most surprising manner. When, unbeknownst to Mrs. Frederic (CC H Pounder), MacPherson walks and Leena (Genelle Williams) is revealed to be a double agent, with Claudia still on the hook as the fall guy and Artie potentially blown to smithereens, “Warehouse 13” transforms into a gritty dark thriller full of false endings.

“Warehouse 13” bowed last week while earning Syfy ratings gold. The show pulled in a total of 2.2 million viewers, making it the most successful series in Syfy’s 17-year history. According to Syfy, “ “Warehouse 13” toppled “Battlestar Galactica’s” mark set in its first year (2005) of Adults 25-54 (just over 2 million) and HH rating (2.4), while bettering the 3.0 million total viewers record established by Eureka in 2008-09.”
