Stargate Universe Preview (Video)

“Stargate Universe,” SyFy’s newest space vehicle, looks poised to give sci-fi fans a gritty, militaristic TV show to enjoy now that “Battlestar Galactica” has ended. SGU,” which debuts October 2, 2009 as a two-hour movie, will lead the way for a regular weekly show starring Robert Carlyle (“28 Weeks Later”) as Dr. Nicholas Rush, along with Lou Diamond Phillips as Colonel David Telfordwith and limited appearances by Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks.

“SGU” follows the adventures of a present-day, multinational exploration team on board the spaceship ‘Destiny’, transported to a distant corner of the universe and unable to return to Earth, with members of the team forced to remain on the vessel and fend for themselves.

Here’s a sneak peak at what’s in store for the intrepid explorers:

Unfortunately, this week’s commercial leading up to the premiere makes the show look only marginally interesting. The commercial features a ballad, a music style far too pedestrian for a space show. “Defying Gravity” had the same problem, and its ratings were anemic.

“SGU” has time to remedy its music problem. Maybe it could feature a fusion of classical and world music like on “Battlestar Galactica”. Or, it could use electronic music like that featured in the best sci-fi show that never got picked up, “Virtuality.” That would really make the show rock.
