The House passed a resolution of disapproval today against Republican Rep. Joe Wilson from South Carolina for shouting ”You lie!” at President Obama during his health care address to a joint session of Congress last week. The resolution’s vote, pushed by South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, and which generally fell along party lines, showed that the majority of our elected representatives are not yet ready to turn Congress into a three-ring circus.
While the resolution of disapproval may not seem stern enough for many progressives, who believe Wilson’s antic was a brazen racial attack on the leader of the free world, many believe it helps restore faith in our political system. Voting yes were 233 Democrats and 7 Republicans. Voting no were 12 Democrats and 167 Republicans. Voting present were 5 Democrats.
