Kanye West Called Racist for ‘Rock and Roll’ Moment

A reader wrote in to Popdecay yesterday and commented on our article regarding Kanye West’s antic at the MTV VMAs that Kanye West is a racist for his interrupting Country music star Taylor Swift. Kanye’s outburst does not appear racist. Rather, it appears that West genuinely thought Beyonce deserved to win. Or, it’s possible that he just doesn’t like Country Music invading the MTV Video Music Awards. When’s the last time any rock, pop, hip hop or R&B folks won a CMA award?

Kanye West was wrong; Britney Spears should have won. That said, West’s conduct was rude, but bad behavior is in no way unusual for rock. Oasis, Sex Pistols, etc. come to mind as examples of artists who have kept rock’s bad boy image alive.

West was right to apologize. Poor Taylor Swift got caught up in something that had nothing to do with her personally: His antic was most likely meant to boost interest in Kanye West, Beyonce, MTV VMA, Jay Leno, and inadvertently, Taylor Swift.

Since scores of celebrities have twittered and blogged about how much of a douche bag West is, someone with cojones has finally stood up to defend West’s ‘rock and roll’ moment. British comedian Russell Brand, who hosted the MTV Video Music Awards, had this to say about West’s antic: “We’re all people; these things are a bit silly. Calm down, no one died, it’s all right,” Brand said, adding that Kanye got “a little bit excited” over Swift’s win over Beyoncé. “Because in the past, I’ve made mistakes and done things a little bit daft, if I think someone has done things that I don’t agree with, I think, well, I’ve done things in the past that I’m not proud of.”

But Brand did agree that Kanye may have picked the wrong person to target. “Taylor Swift’s a young kid, isn’t she? Yeah, you can’t make a pretty girl cry.”

The comedian said that he knows the VMA-nominated rapper personally and thinks that he’s just a nice guy who decided to do the wrong thing at the show. “I know Kanye, and I know he’s a nice bloke,” he said. “We all make mistakes in life.”

Who is Keyna West? He IS a RACIST. He is a bully. He is a coward. Had he done this to a black artist he would have had his ass kicked. Instead he choose a vulnerable teenager to bully. How manly of him. He chooses to verbally assault and batter white contestants. Google kanye west, racist and see for yourself. Watch U Tube. Keyna West is RACISM. A parasite, a bully, a coward.
What facts did you analyze to come to the conclusion that kenya west does not “appear to be” a racist. You justify, you conclude that racist West GENUINELY thought Beyonce should win. OH, I didn’t know that justified his racist outrageous demeaning of Ms. Swift. You further continue to defend his racist ways by bringing in other low life’s into the mix, again trying to distract readers into thinking he is a “bad boy”.
Racist West finally, and I mean finally apologized to Ms. Swift after she appeared the NEXT day on The View and publicly stated she had heard NOTHING from Racist West. His facade of an apology on Jay Leno was silence and a poor attempt to appear distraught at questioning, but recovered quick enough to sing.
Ms. Washington grasps at anyone (Brand???) who defends West. Even Brand said, “Kanye may have picked the wrong person to target. “Taylor Swift’s a young kid, isn’t she? Yeah, you can’t make a pretty girl cry.” A pretty teenager. What he fails to point out is when Racist West has done the same with other black artists.
Kenya West is an underground RACIST, he is a bully, he is a coward, he attacks teenagers, a parasite to make himself feel better.
Your article doesn’t convince me. I am boycotting all of RACIST West’s products and sponsors. And where have Al and Jesse been? They chant racism every time they can brand someone. Oh, I see why.

There’s a lot of name-calling in your comment, but you don’t back it up with concrete evidence to support your claim that West is a racist. Where’s your proof?

    • Desiree Washington says:

As for the boycotting, I doubt you listened to his music anyway. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if you purchased his music so you can then burn it later.

Does anyone believe that Kanye would have interupted the speech of a lack artist?

        • Helo says:

Yep. He would have upstaged a black artist.

He’s going on tour with Lady Gaga. How is he a racist? He’s in the music business and interacts with whites all the time. Last time I checked, the music industry was hugely a white owned industry. He did it to get his name out there…and it worked. It was a jerk move, but it was effective.

Now, the question for you is, would you be so bent out of shape if Kanye was white and Taylor was black? My guess is you would not be writing in to defend a black Taylor Swift.

            Hello:

Give me a F##K#IN# break that he would have interrupted a black person. That is a complete fairy tale. He made sure it was a white person.

The double standard in this country when it comes to theses types of these things is laughable. If you were to reverse the roles and a white country star interrupted a black female music artist during her acceptance speach he would immediately be branded a racist and his career would be finished.

White people in this country are so afraid to confront black people on black racism that it borderlines cowardness. We know have a balck president in the white house, so guess what black people you no longer lack political or financial power, and yes welocme to the 21th century you can be racists.

The Kayne West apology was a complete joke. He basically made excuses for his behavior by trying to make people feel sorry for him.

But of course the white liberal media will accept his apology with open arms. I am suprised they have not found a way to say that
Taylor Swift invoked the incident and is a racist.

  2. Prospero says:

TT, what makes you think Kanye West is a racist? Are any and all incidents between blacks and whites racial? By that measure, the right wing attacks on Obama are racial. Do you agree that they are racial? Frankly, I’d agree with Ms. Washington that you were likely not a West fan anyway so you’re boycott won’t be effective. It’s people like you who drove the Beatles into seclusion for no legitimate reason.
