Project Runway Pregnancy Challenge: Ep. 2 Review [Spoilers]

project runway klum romijnThe challenge for the designers this week on ‘Project Runway’ was to create a look for a very pregnant Rebecca Romijn that was chic and stylish, while still celebrating shape. Most of the designers were not accustomed to designing maternity wear, and that pushed the trash talking to a fever pitch.

Ra’mon Lawrence Coleman was most verbal with his disdain over the other designers’ creations, describing their looks as ‘hot messes’ – the most overused phrase in contemporary times. And for all his pontificating, his design ended up being in the bottom. It was described as a ‘bowling ball bag’ by judges.

Malvin Vien and Mitchell Hall rounded out the bottom group of designers and found themselves on the chopping block. Mitchell created a piece that was sloppy, tackily sown and labeled a ‘pregnant mess’ by Heidi Klum. Malvin created a look that he described simply as a ‘nest and mother hen’ look with chicken thigh pants’; the judges were horrified and called it bizarre. It was a battle between ridiculous and sloppy with weird taking the prize as most unforgivable. Malvin got the ax.

The winner this week was Shirin Askari, who designed a beautiful draping dress and coat combo that the judges described as most wearable and absolutely lovely, gaining her immunity for next week.

This episode of Project Runway shed 17% of its viewers from the premier, dropping to 3.5 million watching, with a 2.3 rating among women 18-49, according to TV by the Numbers.
